Description

Stanion Lodge is a farmhouse recorded in a survey from 1610, with most of its structure dating from the late 17th century and late 18th century. It is built from regularly coursed and squared limestone, with a brick extension at the rear and roofs made of Welsh and Collyweston slate. Originally likely designed as a two-unit plan, the building now has an irregular L-shape and is two stories tall.

The main front, which is from the late 18th century, features a four-window range with varying sizes of 20th-century casements, some of which are in original openings. The first-floor windows have gauged stone heads. There is a central 20th-century door and porch. To the right, there is a late 17th-century double-gabled cross wing that has a one-window range on its return wall, also with 20th-century casements in an original opening beneath a wooden lintel. There are 20th-century glazed doors to the right, also under a wooden lintel. The gable ends have ashlar parapets and ashlar stacks at the ridge and end. The rear of the cross wing has a hipped dormer, and the rear elevation includes an early 19th-century brick extension with a catslide roof.

Inside, the farmhouse features chamfered spine beams, with the beams in the cross wing being moulded. There are remains of an open fireplace with a bressumer in the cross wing. The main staircase has some late 18th-century turned balusters, which have likely been reset.
