Description

This is a house with attached stables, dating to the 18th century, with earlier origins for the stables. Datestones indicate construction in 1727 and 1739; the stables are likely from the early 17th century.

The house is built of squared coursed limestone with a Collyweston slate roof, while the stables are of regular coursed limestone with thatch and Collyweston slate roofs. The house was originally planned as a two-unit dwelling. It is two storeys high, with an attic, and has a two-window front of casement and stone mullion windows, which have been renewed in the 20th century. A central 20th-century door sits within a porch. Ashlar gable parapets and ashlar stacks with moulded cornices mark the ends of the building. The left gable features a datestone in the apex and dated quoins reading TB/1727 and 1739. The rear elevation, which abuts the road, features one first-floor window and two ground-floor windows, set within 20th-century casement windows under wooden lintels.

The stables are attached to the front of the house by a single-storey building from the 19th century. Originally, they were likely a pair of stables with haylofts above. They have two plank doors under wooden lintels, as well as two hayloft openings with eyebrow dormers. Ashlar gable parapets, a ball finial, and carved heads at the eaves are present. A central carved head is positioned between the hayloft doors. A single-unit range to the left has a Collyweston slate roof and a dormer window. The interior features an open fireplace. Group value is derived from its contribution to the historic character of the street.
