Description
The boundary wall and gateway of Bramston House is located on the west side of St Osyth's Lane. This high stone wall encloses the grounds of Bramston House, which is described in detail in the listing for Market Place (south side). About three-quarters of the way down the wall, there is an impressive early 18th-century gateway. This gateway is segmental and inset from the road, measuring 24 feet wide overall, with the gateway itself being approximately 10 feet wide. It features two tall piers topped with an entablature and ball-on-pedestal finials. The wall stands approximately 10 feet high to the top of the coping and is constructed of roughly coursed rubble. It extends from the rear of the house to the beginning of South Road, continuing about 10 yards beyond the junction of St Osyth's Lane with East Road. The boundary wall and gateway of Bramston House form a group with Bramston House.
