Description

Cobstone Windmill is a late 18th- and early 19th-century smock mill that has been restored and converted into a house, likely around 1975 for Hayley Mills. The building has a blackened brick ground floor, with a timber frame and weatherboard cladding above. The upper section features a scalloped wooden frieze at the base of the ogee lead roof, which is topped with a finial. The mill is 12-sided and has three storeys; three sides feature paired, renewed 20th-century barred wooden casements. Ground-floor casements have cambered heads, while those above are sheltered by board hoods. There are two half-glazed doors. The mill is equipped with four wooden sails and a fantail, which includes a small platform. The interior retains some original machinery. The windmill serves as a prominent landmark.
