Description
Field End Grange is a house located half a mile southeast of the Church of St John the Baptist. It dates back to the 16th century and is partly clad in 18th-century brick. The structure is timber framed, with 17th-century brick infill in the gabled right-hand bay and the right flank elevation, while the remainder of the front is made of 18th-century red brick. The rear elevation is roughcast.
The right-hand bay features a gabled cross-wing, and the left-hand bay has a large stack on the left flank, which has a clunch lower part, tiled weathering, and 17th-century upper parts with a flue. There is a door on the left with Gothic tracery, a 3-light casement window, and a blocked door and window. The upper floor has a 3-light casement window, followed by a 2-light casement window in the gabled and framed bay, which includes tension braces. There is also a stack on the right side. The windows are leaded casements.
Inside, the house has a large fireplace on the ground floor, large chamfered beams, and a first-floor fireplace with a stone arch featuring four centers. The roof trusses are supported by curved wind braces.
