Description

Stonewells Cottage and Stonewells Farmhouse are a 16th or late 15th century timber-framed hall house with storeyed jettied crosswings. Around the late 16th or early 17th century, the hall was floored over, and large lateral brick stacks were added. The first-floor infill is plastered, while the ground floor is red brick, with some from the 18th and 19th centuries, alongside more modern brickwork. Features include curved braces and a jetty underbuilt on the left-hand crosswing. The right-hand crosswing was largely reconstructed, and a bay extension was added to the west. The roofs are of old tiles. Most windows are modern casements. There are two dormers in the upper storey of the hall. A surviving 17th-century window is located on the ground floor of the hall. Large lateral stacks are present on the east elevation of the right-hand crosswing and on the south gable wall of the left-hand crosswing. A single-storey range runs along Crossley's Hill to the south.
