Description
The Reading Room is a 17th century timber-framed building located on the north-west side of High Street in Chalfont St Giles. Originally converted from its earlier use as an Infants School, it was altered in the late 19th century to serve as a Reading Room. The building features timber-framed gables with brick infill, while the other elevations are constructed of brick. It has an old tile roof and the street front displays three gables along with a projecting gabled porch. The gables have false framing, and there is a window in the center gable with three-light casements on either side of the porch. The brick is painted, and the roof trusses are exposed internally. Additionally, a war memorial is attached to the front of the west bay.
