Lych Gate Cottage (Premises Of Brown And Company Solicitors)

Lych Gate Cottage, which serves as the premises for Brown and Company Solicitors, is a late 16th-century timber-framed house located on the southeast side of High Street in Chalfont St Giles. The building consists of two bays and is two stories tall, featuring colourwashed brick infill and an old tile roof. It has 18th-century box sash windows with 19th-century margined panes. The entry is situated below the upper floor of No 22. The cottage has jettied front and rear sections, with the right side of the west bay underbuilt. A covered passageway runs through the left bay, leading to the churchyard. Inside the passage, the beams and joists date from the late 16th century. The rear of the building has later brick and stud infill over the passageway, along with extensions to the rear of the west bay and a large stack made of old thin bricks.
