Description
The Feathers Public House and Saddlers House is an early 17th century timber-framed house that stands two storeys high and consists of four bays. The building has been subdivided by a large central 17th century brick chimney stack, which features oversailing courses and panelled sides, although the top has a modern extension with pots. The timber frame was refronted in the 19th century. The Feathers has a jettied upper floor with gables, a brick ground floor dating from the late 19th century, and a roughcast upper floor. The gable is tile hung, and the roof is covered with old tiles. The 17th century framing is exposed at the rear, which also includes a 17th century timber-framed rear wing.
The former John's Newsagent has a late 18th century brick refronting that features dentil eaves and barred sash windows on the first floor. The shopfront consists of flat bays flanking a central doorway and is painted. There is a hipped rear wing made of early 18th century timber-framing with painted brick infill, and the framing is exposed inside.
