Description
Muswell Farmhouse is a house dating from the 17th century, with a fireplace dated 1686. The right bay was added in the late 18th to 19th century, and there have been alterations in the 19th and 20th centuries. The building features a timber frame with brick infill at the rear and right gable, while the front was rebuilt in brick during the 19th century, and the left gable is rendered. It has an old tile roof that is half-hipped to the right and a rebuilt brick chimney located at the rear of the central bay. The house is two storeys high and has three bays. The upper storey has four paired wooden casements, which were renewed in the 20th century, while the centre bay features a 20th-century three-light metal casement. A 20th-century brick porch with metal casements and a lean-to corrugated iron roof is situated between the right bays, along with other small lean-to extensions at the rear. The flanking outbuildings are not of special interest. Inside, the wide centre bay has a chamfered spine beam, and the staircase aligns with the rear chimney, with a central upper cross wall. The fireplace in the upper room has a wood-grained plaster overmantel with a date, small raised ovals on the main panel and pilasters, and a large heavily moulded cornice.
