Description
Barley Cottage is a house dating from the mid-18th century, with an earlier core. It is constructed of flint with brick dressings, featuring narrow bricks on the left bays. The cottage has 18th to 19th-century dentil eaves and an old tile roof, with a chimney made of narrow brick situated between the right bays. The building is L-shaped and has two storeys with a three-bay front. The windows include two and three-light leaded casements, some of which are from the 20th century, while the ground floor left openings have gauged heads. There is a five-light casement on the ground floor right, partially in a blocked doorway. A 20th-century door with Gothick leaded glazing is located between the left bays, also featuring a gauged head. To the left, there is a lean-to. The earlier rear section includes a small square light set in an offset and chamfered brick surround at the rear gable. The remaining rear section has a catslide extension and a 20th-century lobby that connects the house to a converted former outbuilding.
