Description
57 Townside is a house that was originally part of a terrace of three cottages, dating from the 17th century. The building is constructed of witchert, which is colorwashed and roughcast, with the north or rear elevation being colorwashed and rendered. It features a half-hipped thatch roof and consists of five bays and one and a half storeys.
The entrance is located in the fourth bay from the road, which has a modern stone porch topped with a pantile roof. The fifth bay to the east does not have a door. The two left bays contain sash windows, the middle bay has a steel casement window, and the two right bays have barred casements. There are five eaves dormers with two-light casements, with the three on the right side breaking the eaves. Stacks are positioned on either side of the second bay, with a lobby entry located between the fourth and fifth bays. The stack for the lobby entry is made of 17th-century thin bricks. The east gable is timber-framed and features plastered infill.
Inside, several rooms showcase chamfered and stopped spine beams. The street-facing gable has a lower section made of rubblestone.
