Description
No. 9 Market Square is a shop and dwelling that dates from the early 19th century, although it has older origins and underwent alterations in the 20th century. The building is constructed of red brick in Flemish bond and features a slate roof with a brick stack at one end. It has a double-depth plan and stands three stories tall with a three-window range.
To the left, there is a carriageway with a double-leaf door and an overlight. The remainder of the ground floor is taken up by a shop front that includes a central door, an overlight, and glazing bars on the shop windows. The first floor has plate-glass sash windows with gauged brick, flat-arched heads, while the second floor features 9-pane sashes with flat-arched heads. Pilaster strips are present at either end of the front on the upper floors, and there is a deep projecting bracketed wooden eaves. Inside, the building has boxed and chamfered spine beams.
