Description
Lower South Farmhouse is a house dating from the 17th century, with significant alterations made in the early and late 19th century. The walls have been rebuilt using red and vitreous brick, and the roof is tiled from the 20th century, featuring ornamental bargeboards. The house is one storey with an attic and consists of three bays. It has barred wooden casements, with four-light casements in the left bays and a three-light casement on the right, all having segmental heads. The attic features casements in eaves-line dormers with half-timbered gables. There is a flush-panelled door located between the left bays, which is accessed via a glazed lean-to porch. Another door is found in the lean-to at the right end. At the rear, there is a parallel range added in the 19th century. Inside, the central room contains a stop-chamfered spine beam and a large fireplace surrounded by late 18th-century pine with a moulded dentil cornice. The farmhouse is included for its group value.
