Description
Upper South Farmhouse is a house dating from the 16th century and early 17th century, featuring an L-plan layout with an 18th-century extension to the west that forms a T-plan. There are also late 18th-century to 19th-century extensions at the rear northwest angle and the west end. The original rear wing of the L-plan building includes some timber framing on the first floor, which is roughcast and whitewashed at the gable end. The rest of the house has been refronted with 18th-century chequer brick. It has old tile roofs and brick chimneys flanking the main bays of the south front. The house is two storeys high with three main bays, featuring 3-light leaded casements and a central flush panelled door with top lights. The ground floor openings have segmental heads, and the lower bay to the left has a half-hipped roof and a similar casement. Inside, the original left bay contains a 16th-century moulded spine beam and fireplace lintel, while the central room has a later ovolo moulded spine beam.
