Description

Northend Farmhouse is a house dating from around 1700, which was refurbished in the 1970s. It is constructed from flint and brick, with the front featuring finely knapped and coursed flint and brick dressings. The roof is covered with old tiles, and there are flanking brick chimneys, one of which has been rebuilt. The house has a double pile design, is two storeys high with an attic, and consists of five bays.

The front of the house has broad brick quoins and bonded vertical strips flanking the windows. It features an off-set plinth, a chequered band course at the first floor, and a later moulded wooden eaves cornice. The windows are three-pane boxed sashes, all of which have been renewed, with those on the ground floor having segmental heads. The central entrance has a flush-panelled door with a rectangular fanlight, surrounded by a shouldered architrave and topped with a moulded cornice hood supported by cut scroll brackets; all of these elements were renewed in the 20th century but mimic original fragments. The gables and rear of the house have barred wooden casements. There is also a later brick lean-to on the rear left side. Inside, the front left room features early to mid-18th century panelling. The house is highly regarded for the fine quality of its front.
