Description
Rose Cottage is a house dating from the 17th century, with a 19th-century addition on the east side. It is constructed from witchert, which is colourwashed and rendered, and features a thatched roof. The building is 1½ storeys tall and has two bays, along with a one-storey bay to the right that has an old tiled roof. The central entrance is marked by a door with a 19th-century gabled porch. The windows are triple casements, with the upper windows set in thatch and featuring 3-light leaded casements. A central stack made of thin brick from the 17th century has a sailing course, and there are diagonal 19th-century single flues at each end. At the rear, there is a two-storey range with a slate roof that runs at right angles to the single-storey bay on the right. The house was owned by the Rose family until 1898, who were notable Quakers.
