Description
The house is a timber-framed farmhouse, dating back to the 16th century, with alterations made in the 19th century. It is constructed with timber framing, now clad in colourwashed render, roughcast, and brick. The roof is covered in old tiles. Originally, the house comprised three bays of timber framing, with a rear wing added to the right and a stair turret in the angle. A north-east wing was extended to serve as a dairy, and a two-bay cottage was built beyond the stair turret, alongside a flat-roofed, single-storey, one-bay addition to the left. The south front features brickwork dating from around 1890, covering the right two bays, with a central door within a gabled open porch. The door has coloured margin glazing, flanked by tripartite sash windows with segmental heads. There is a stack on the ridge of the left bay, which is constructed of 19th-century brick and has two ground-floor sash windows. Another sash window is found in the flat-roofed left addition, which has a coped parapet. Casement windows are present on the other elevations. The cottage has two 3-light casements. The north-east bay contains a 17th-century stack. The interior features chamfered spine beams with run-out stops on the ground floor. A 19th-century staircase is located within the 16th-century stair turret. The first floor reveals much exposed timber framing, including cambered tie beams, curved and straight tie beam braces, and, in the north-east wing, massive curved purlin and wall braces. The dairy incorporates reused timber from the 16th and 17th centuries.
