Description
The Firs is a house dating from around 1600 for the rear wing, with the front block constructed in the early 19th century. The rear wing is timber-framed with brick infill, while the front block features coursed rubblestone with ashlar dressings and chamfered quoins, topped with slate roofs. The front block consists of three bays and two storeys, and the rear wing has one bay and one and a half storeys. The street-facing side has a central four-panel front door set within a modern gabled porch. The windows are four-pane sashes with chamfered voussoirs and key stones, with the ground floor windows being wider. There are flanking brick chimneys, and the rear wing displays curved braces. The first floor south window features three-light leaded casements. The east gable elevation includes a massive rubblestone stack with two diagonally set brick shafts from around 1600. Inside, the house has chamfered spine beams, and the early 19th-century front block retains its original window shutters.
