Description
North West Lodge and Gatepiers at West Wycombe Park is an 18th-century two-storey lodge constructed of stucco, topped with a hipped Welsh slate roof. The ground floor features small chamfered and bonded quoins, while the first floor has a narrow string course, a moulded and modillion cornice, and a ball finial at the apex of the roof. The east front includes two sash windows with thick glazing bars and a central six-fielded panel door, which is framed by engaged Doric columns and an entablature adorned with triglyphs and guttae, topped by a pediment. The gatepiers are made of red brick and are capped with carved stone pineapple finials above their cornices and blocking courses. There are also similar secondary piers, which were formerly topped with stone ball finials, and an outer pair of piers that feature stone vases. All the gatepiers have been rebuilt on a new site set back from the road, using modern brickwork.
