Description

Deverell's Farmhouse is a house dated 1632, as indicated by a tablet at the top of the porch gable. The building is constructed from large blocks of coursed rubble limestone and features a moulded stone string course at the first floor level. It has an old tile roof with restored stone coped gables and kneelers. The third bay has a rebuilt brick chimney with grouped shafts, offset heads, and pilasters, while a smaller brick chimney is located to the left. The house is designed in a T-plan, with two storeys and an attic, and consists of four bays.

The windows are moulded stone mullions with leaded lights, featuring a 2-light window on the ground floor left, and 4-light windows above and in the second and fourth bays. The ground floor right window has been much restored. The third bay includes a two-storey and attic gabled porch projection with a much restored moulded Tudor arch, a 3-light window above with a hoodmould, and a small rectangular leaded light in the attic. The gable ends have 3-light attic windows with hoodmoulds, and there is a similar wing to the rear opposite the porch.

Inside, the interior has largely been altered in the 18th century, featuring plain panelled dados and late 18th-century fireplace surrounds, one of which is delicately carved and includes a frieze panel depicting a hunting scene. The right-hand front room also has a corner cupboard from the same period, which has arched curved doors and an ornamental frieze. The inner front door is from the 17th century and has a moulded and stopped oak frame.
