20/129 Elbeck Farmhouse and Cottage (formerly listed as Elbeck 20.2.58 Farmhouse and Farmbuilding)

House. Dated 1707. Limestone rubble, graduated stone slate roof. 2 storeys, 3 bays. Added bay right and converted outbuildings to left, not of special interest. Central gabled 2-storey porch has: board door on left with chamfered quoined jambs and stepped chamfer to lintel with relief lettering,"I.E. 1707"; recessed chamfered 2-light mullion window to right, under a continuous hoodmould with door, and similar, stepped, 3-light window above. Similar windows with hoodmoulds to ground floor, of probably 2 (now 1),4 (now 2), and 4 (now 3) lights, the left hand windows having continuous hoodmould, lowered chamfered sills and flat-faced mullions to 2nd window. Rectangular windows in plain surrounds to first floor and to ground floor, right. Large ridge stack to right of porch. Interior: a narrow entrance passage in the porch gives access to the main living room; possible site of original staircase in porch room, right (see Sawyers Garth q.v.) Main living room has a large segmental-arched fireplace with tripartite stone arch, the flanking stones inscribed to represent joggled voussoirs.
