Description

East Deepdale is a house dated 1693 with early 19th-century alterations. It is constructed of coursed limestone rubble and features a graduated stone slate roof, except for the right side of the porch roof, which is made of blue slates. The house has two storeys and three bays, with a low gabled two-storey porch in the central bay and an added central L-shaped rear wing. The building has quoins.

The porch includes a 20th-century glazed door to the right, set in a surround with elaborately-moulded jambs and lintel. The moulding extends across the lintel, featuring two pointed arches and one round arch with the raised letters "I A L : 1693." There is a hoodmould above, and a two-light recessed chamfered mullion window above the door, where the original mullion has been removed and replaced with a six-pane sash. To the left return, there is a round-headed chamfered window, and to the right return, a rectangular window. The windows flanking the porch are smaller on the first floor, with four-pane sashes to the left and 16-pane sashes to the right, all set in raised plain surrounds. There are remains of a blocked recessed chamfered window on the ground floor, far right. The house has end stacks, with the left stack slightly projecting. The original eaves line is indicated by a change in the quoins, and the building line is also clear on the left return, where there is an inserted window with recessed chamfered jambs on the ground floor to the left.

Inside, on the ground floor to the left, there is a late 17th-century wide cambered-arched fireplace that was reduced in width around 1800. The keystone and central voussoirs remain, with the keystone decorated with a four-petalled flower and zig-zag and leaf patterns in relief.
