Description
The Gothic tower, built around 1730 and attributed to James Gibbs, is located northwest of Hartwell House. It originally stood in the 'Wilderness' of the early 18th-century garden, alongside other structures that have since been removed, but it is recorded in the Nebot paintings at the County Museum. The tower is a low circular structure made of ashlar stone, featuring a moulded plinth, cornice, and a battlemented parapet that projects out on small moulded corbels. On the north side, there is a Gothic arched opening with a moulded arch and hoodmould, which is accessed by a flight of five curved and moulded stone steps. Opposite this, there is a small quatrefoil opening.
