Description
Beam Cottage is a house dating from around 1600. It features a timber frame that is now colourwashed over roughcast, with a rubblestone plinth and an old tile roof that is partly colourwashed. The building consists of four bays, with the left bay showing dressed rubblestone above a chamfered plinth, which may indicate the back wall of a former large lateral stack. The house is two storeys high.
There is an off-centre door in the right of the centre bay, framed in chamfered oak. To the left of this bay, there is an exposed post that reaches up to the first floor level. The right side of the second bay from the left has two 2-light casements on both the ground and first floors, while the entrance bay features single light casements. The first floor of the left bay has a 2-light ovolo mullioned and framed casement that has been removed from the rear elevation. There are stacks located at the right gable and between the left-hand bays.
Inside, there is a cellar beneath the right-hand bay, and much of the interior showcases exposed timber-framing along with timber-framed partition walls made of heavy scantling. The right-hand bay includes chamfered and stopped crossbeams, and the second bay from the left has two chamfered and stopped spine beams.
