Description

Salden House Farmhouse is a house that represents the remains of a large residence built in the late 16th century for Sir John Fortescue, which was mostly demolished between 1738 and 1743. The structure is made of red brick featuring a diaper pattern with blue headers and flanking brick pilasters. It has stone mouldings at the top of the plinth and eaves, and some stone window dressings. The roof is covered with old tiles, and there are brick chimneys located at the gables and between the right-hand bays.

The house is two storeys tall with an attic and consists of three main bays. On the ground floor, there are three-light leaded casements, with two on the left set in segmental brick heads, and a window on the right in an altered moulded stone surround. The first floor features original three-light windows with moulded stone mullions and transoms, also with leaded lights. The left window has a three-light barred wooden casement in a stone surround. There are three hipped dormers, each with paired leaded casements. A 20th-century panelled door is located between the left-hand bays and has a three-light leaded fanlight with a segmental head. To the right, there is an additional small bay with a blocked four-centred brick arch, which includes a three-light moulded stone window and a ledged board door. A 20th-century three-light leaded casement is present on the first floor, along with a 20th-century double garage extension to the right.

The rear of the house is similar to the front, featuring moulded stone window surrounds on the first floor and 19th to 20th-century extensions and a conservatory. Inside, there is some 17th-century panelling.
