Description

Candlewyck Cottage is a house dating from the late 16th to 17th centuries, originally comprising two bays to the left. A small 17th-century bay was added, followed by a 19th-century extension to the right. The house has a timber frame with brick infill to the rear; the front facade was refaced in brick during the 19th century, while the left-hand gable is rendered. The roof is half-hipped and thatched, with a tiled roof over the extension. A brick chimney sits between the left-hand bays. The house has 1½ storeys, with irregular casement windows featuring bars and leaded lights. The ground floor windows are two-light with segmental heads, while the first-floor windows are two- and three-light, set within the thatched roof. A blocked doorway to the left of the second bay has been replaced with a 20th-century two-light leaded casement and a timber gabled porch. A 20th-century door is located to the left of the third bay. The interior retains stop-chamfered spine beams with run-out stops.
