Description
No. 1 High Street is an office and estate agency building dating from the late 18th century to early 19th century, with some elements from around 1830-1840. The main block features colourwashed render, flat eaves, and a slate roof, while the left gable is covered with 20th-century colourwashed asbestos slates. The building stands three storeys tall and has three bays. It includes barred sash windows, with four-pane windows flanking a three-pane window, and the ground floor has 20th-century barred shop windows. The central entrance has a door with a rectangular fanlight, flanking pilasters, and a flat wooden hood supported by scroll brackets. To the right, there is an earlier section made of red and vitreous brick with red brick dressings, dentil eaves, and a semi-conical slate roof. This part is two storeys high and features a curved bay with curved four-pane sashes and gauged brick heads. The doorway has been altered and now includes a 20th-century three-pane sash window to the left. This building is included for its group value.
