Description
This is a former stable block, built around 1870-80, originally located to the west of Mount Tabor House. The building is now used as school rooms and residential accommodation. It is constructed of brick, with half-timbering and roughcast or herringbone brick infill to the gables and upper part of the central wing. The roofs are tiled, featuring decorative fishscale patterning, and the central wing has a hipped roof. The building follows a U-shaped plan, with one storey and an attic.
The central range has a large, 20th-century gabled staircase leading to an upper door. There are lean-to roofs over a pair of 4-light transomed casements and a board door. A wooden bellcote sits atop the central range, featuring open arcaded sides, an ogee lead roof, and a cast iron weather vane shaped like a fox. The wing projecting to the left has been altered in the 20th century. The wing to the right has three 3-light casements. The building is included on the list for its group value.
