Description

Old Church House is a former small church that has been converted into a house. It dates back to the 14th century, was restored in 1883, and underwent alterations in the 1970s. The building is constructed of limestone and ironstone rubble, with some brick patching, and features a tiled roof. It has a rectangular shape with a 20th-century wing to the south, forming a T-plan.

The original structure includes diagonal corner buttresses, with the northern ones rendered. At the west end, there is a 19th-century bellcote featuring a tile-hung base, cusped wooden arches, and a pyramidal lead roof topped with a ball finial. The east and west ends have three-light Decorated windows with reticulated tracery, both of which were restored in the 19th century, although the window on the east end is smaller.

On the north side, there are two paired 20th-century leaded casements with plain stone surrounds and transoms, along with a central door that has a 16th-century four-centred chamfered arch. The 19th-century gabled porch on the north side features a chamfered stone arch and stone quoins. The south side has a 16th-century two-light window with a stone mullion and flat head.

The 20th-century extension is one and a half storeys high, with rendered quoins, a small brick chimney, three-light leaded casements, and a plaque in the gable. There is also a 20th-century conservatory in the southwest angle. Inside, the building has had a floor inserted in part but retains niches with cinquefoil heads flanking the east window and two piscinae. The font and bell have been removed.
