Description
The Church of All Saints in Leighton Buzzard is an important medieval parish church, originally built in the 13th century, with 15th-century windows and a clerestory. The tower, topped with a broach spire, reaches a height of 193 feet. The west door features fine late 13th-century scroll ironwork hinges attributed to Thomas of Leighton, which are similar to those found at Eaton Bray. Inside, there are carved 15th-century choir stalls with poppy heads and misericordes, along with 17th-century altar rails and a carved cedar pulpit from 1683. The church also contains brasses dating from 1597 and 1636, a 15th-century vestry with two upper storeys located north of the chancel, and monuments including two with effigies: Wyngate from 1603 and Welles from 1645. Additionally, there is late 19th-century stained glass created by Kempe.
