Description
The Library at The Cedars School is a Grade II* listed building located on Bridge Street in Leighton Buzzard. This former music room of the Prebendal House dates from the early 18th century and features a square plan with a careful design. The building is constructed in local bond using vitreous headers, with red brick dressings and a hipped roof covered in Welsh slate. It is a single-storey structure that boasts a tetrastyle Roman Doric portico made of stone, complete with a pediment.
The façade includes two sash windows on each front, which have glazing bars and are set under flat arches with fluted keystones. The building is further enhanced by chamfered ashlar quoins and a moulded cornice, with a parapet on the south elevation. Inside, there is a coved vaulted ceiling adorned with a modillion cornice, and the square centre features intricate scroll and foliage patterns in panels. A carved chimneypiece adds to the interior's decorative elements.
