Description
Miss Day's Almshouses, located at 71 to 87 (odd) Amersham High Street, were built in 1875. The building is constructed of red and grey brick and features a slate roof. At the center, there is a gable with a bargeboard and an inscribed tablet in a classical surround that commemorates John and Alice Day. These almshouses were established for six poor women of good character. The structure has nine sash windows on each floor, along with nine flush doors, all of which have segmental arches on the ground floor. Additionally, there are two casement windows at the southern end, next to No 69. Access to the almshouses is through an arch under No 69.
