Description
49 High Street is a building with a 15th-century hall and cross wing plan, featuring alterations from the late 16th or early 17th century. It has a timber frame with plaster and red brick infill, topped with an old tile roof and a large brick chimney stack. The building is two storeys high, with a gable on the left that has timber framing and a tiled pentice over a three-light casement window. There is a gabled dormer on the right and a low plain door below, accompanied by a small modern window on the right. To the left, there is a modern flat-roofed one-storey shop addition. The rear elevation showcases a timber-framed gable on the left, a 15th-century four-light timber mullioned window with tracery at the top of each light. Inside, there is a fine arch-braced hall truss visible on the first floor, along with a moulded beam above the staircase and traceried openings beside it. The original floor remains in the wing, and there is a 16th-century inglenook and fireplace on the first floor.
