Description

Elmodesham House is an early 18th-century building of purple-red brick with light red dressings and chamfered quoins, located on the south side of Amersham High Street. It has an old tile roof concealed behind a parapet above a moulded dentil cornice.

The house is three storeys high and features moulded brick floor bands. It comprises eleven bays, with the central two bays slightly recessed, containing a six-panel door with sidelights, set within fielded panelled reveals and framed by four Roman Doric pilasters supporting an entablature with triglyphs. Double-hung sash windows with flat-gauged arches and wooden sills are present; five bays are on the left of the centre, and the original four are on the right. The rear elevation displays a tall staircase window and a triple arched rear door with sidelights. Modern extensions have been added.

The interior retains original panelling and a staircase. The building possesses group value from its contribution to the character of the High Street.
