Description

This building, at 20 and 22 Bell Street, is a 17th-century timber-frame structure with brick infill, and has undergone alterations over time. It originally combined a shop with living accommodation. The roof is thatched, with a central brick chimney. The building is one-and-a-half storeys high and two bays wide. The left bay features wooden casements with bars, a two-light window on the ground floor and a three-light window within the thatched roof. Above the three-light window is a Sun Fire Insurance plaque. The right bay has a four-light wooden casement in the thatch, and a 20th-century rectangular bay window for a shop below. A 20th-century door set in an architrave frame is located to the left of each bay. Internally, the structure reveals diagonal braces and chamfered spine beams.
