Description

This milestone, located approximately 400 metres west of the junction with Bainbridge Road, dates from around 1761. It is made of sandstone and stands about 600 millimetres high, featuring a rounded shaft atop a square base. The inscription is weathered, but it may read "S 19". There is also a benchmark near the base of the shaft. This milestone is part of the Askrigg-Sedbergh turnpike road established in 1761.
