Description

This milestone, located approximately 40 metres west of Bird Gill, dates from the late 18th century and is made of sandstone. The stone stands about 600 millimetres high and features a cylindrical shape on a square base, with a weathered rounded top. The inscription on the left reads "A 3" and on the right, "S 17". It is situated on the Askrigg-Sedbergh Turnpike Road, which was established in 1761.
