Description
This barn, located approximately 3 meters southeast of Mire House in Dent, is a Grade II listed structure, likely built in the early to mid-18th century. It is constructed of mixed random rubble with irregular quoins and features a stone slate roof, topped with blue slate in the upper courses. The barn has a rectangular plan oriented on a north-south axis, facing west, and is probably divided into four bays.
The west front includes a segmental-headed wagon doorway in the second bay, which has rubble voussoirs and old board doors. There are steps leading up to a loft doorway located in the fourth bay. On the south gable wall, there is a shippon doorway that is slightly offset to the right, featuring a stone lintel and board door, along with a small square window to the left and a square owl-hole at the apex. The rear of the barn has a former wagon doorway that is opposed to the one at the front, which also has similar rubble voussoirs but is now partly blocked. Additionally, there is a doorway in the third bay with a humped sandstone lintel. The interior was not inspected. This barn forms a group with Mire House.
