Description
The Punch Bowl Hotel is a hotel that dates back to 1638, although it mainly reflects a mid-18th century appearance. It is constructed of coursed rubble with an artificial slate roof and stands three storeys high, comprising two sections with three bays each. The windows are sash style and set within ashlar surrounds.
On the left side, there is a doorway located between the first and second bays, featuring a 20th-century part-glazed door within a quoined surround. Above the door, there is a lintel inscribed with 'R W 1638', although the lettering appears to be inconsistent with 17th-century style. Between the second and third bays, there is a blocked fire window with a moulded surround. A firemark is visible on the second floor, situated between the first and second bays. The building has stacks with classical cornices at both ends and between the second and third bays.
On the right side, there is a door to the left in an ashlar surround, and four windows on both the ground and second floors, with an end stack to the right. A 20th-century two-storey extension projects forward on the right side. The left gable wall features a projecting chimney-breast. The hotel was formerly known as the Miners' Arms.
