Description

Moor View and the cottage to the left, along with Peat Gate House and the cottage to the left, are four cottages that share a single roof, dating from the 17th century and later. They are constructed of rubble with a stone slate roof and stand two storeys high.

The first cottage, built in the 18th century, has two bays with quoins on the left side. It features a central 20th-century part-glazed door set in an ashlar surround. To the right, there is a doorway that has been converted into a window, framed by interrupted jambs. Other windows are 4-pane sashes, also in ashlar surrounds, with end stacks.

The second cottage, known as Moor View, dates from the late 17th century to early 18th century and has three first-floor windows. It has a central 20th-century 4-panel door with a quoined surround. To the left, there is a fire window with a chamfered stone surround and a 3-light chamfered mullioned window. The first floor features 6-pane sashes in chamfered stone surrounds, and to the right, each floor has sash windows with moulded architraves and glazing bars, along with end stacks.

The third cottage is dated 1693 and includes elements from the mid-18th century. It has two bays and remnants of quoins. The central entrance is a 4-panel door with quoined jambs and a lintel inscribed 'I C 1693'. There is a board door in a secondary opening to the right and a fire window with a chamfered surround to the left, while other windows consist of sashes with glazing bars in ashlar surrounds, complemented by end stacks. The right-hand half of this cottage has been incorporated into Peat Gate House.

The fourth cottage, Peat Gate House, dates from the late 18th century and features three bays with openings that have ashlar surrounds. The doorway between the first and second bays contains a 6-panel door, while bay three has a board door set in a surround with interrupted jambs. The windows are sash types with glazing bars, and there are shaped kneelers and ashlar coping to the right, along with three ridge stacks.
