Description
Coxon's Farmhouse and the attached barn are located on Main Street in Cracoe. The farmhouse dates from the 17th century, with a mid-19th century refronting, while the barn is from the 18th century. The farmhouse is two stories high and has three bays, with a narrow projecting wing on the right and a rear wing at the first bay. There is a fourth bay on the right that is used for farm purposes, and the barn has five bays on the left. The barn features quoins, and there is a 19th-century porch between the first and second bays with a panelled door. A 20th-century glazed door is located in the third bay under a porch supported by a Tuscan column. The first and second bays have paired four-pane sash windows with plain surrounds, while there is a narrow recessed chamfered window above the right-hand entrance. The far right bay has a byre door, and there are external steps leading to a loading door, both with chamfered quoined surrounds. An added lean-to outbuilding in the angle with the projecting wing features a square latticed window with a plain surround on the left return. There are shouldered corniced stacks at the left end of the house, positioned between the second and third bays, and at the gable of the wing.
The barn has a central tall cart porch under an outshut roof, with end byre doors that have quoined jambs. The left doorway features a raised lintel and an inserted overlight, while there is a square loading door under the eaves on the left and a small blocked quoined opening to the right of the cart entrance. At the rear of the house, there is a plank door left of centre with tie-stone jambs and a large lintel that has two recessed panels with raised letters "I C" and "16?9". A blocked doorway is located to the right. The rear features 19th-century sashes in plain surrounds. The rear wing has two three-light recessed chamfered mullion windows on the gable end, with the lower one blocked, and two two-light windows on the left return.
Inside, the glazed door leads into a former cross passage, situated behind a large stack that serves a fireplace in the middle room. The fireplace lintel is made of three pieces, featuring a central keystone and two massive flanking stones that are incised to imitate voussoirs. A 19th-century staircase is also present.
