Description

Toppan House is a farmhouse and two cottages, later converted into a house and shop premises. The main farmhouse section dates to 1622, while the cottages are likely from the 18th century. The building is constructed of coursed gritstone rubble, with a graduated stone slate roof and quoins. The house has two storeys and comprises three bays, with the cottages forming a two-by-one-bay addition.

The farmhouse has a central panelled door recessed within a quoined surround. The upper three lights are glazed, and the lintel bears the large raised letters "TT 1622 HT". Flanking the door are five-light recessed chamfered mullion windows, all protected by a continuous dripmould that steps up over the entrance. Similar four-light windows are found on the first floor, and there is a central, likely enlarged, two-light window. A central ridge stack rises from the roof, along with a two-flue stack to the left, where it joins a later range.

The cottages have 20th-century doors and windows fitted into original openings, with the ground-floor openings possibly enlarged.
