Description

Helwith Bridge is a road bridge built in 1875, designed by engineer J S Crossley. It is made of rock-faced gritstone rubble with brick arch heads and features a continuous stone band at road level along with parapets. The bridge has six segmental arches, five of which span the River Ribble, while one arch crosses over a railway line; the easternmost arch is now partly blocked. This bridge was constructed as part of the Settle to Carlisle line of the Midland Railway.
