Description

Beckgate Head is an attached barn and gategarth, likely built in the 18th century. The structure is made of stone rubble, with the house section roughcast and a slate roof. The west facade features two storeys and three bays, with sash windows that include glazing bars; the window in the central bay on the first floor is narrower than the others. The entrance in the central bay has a gabled porch with an arched opening, which is now glazed, leading to a six-panel inner door. The barn on the left projects forward and has quoins, with a segmental-headed entrance that includes an arch and pivoted doors, as well as entrances for a cow-house on either side. There is a cross-axial stack and a gable-end stack. The south facade displays wide verges at the gable and part of a former corbelled stack, along with a sash window. The gategarth is recessed to the right and consists of four irregular bays, featuring sash windows with vertical glazing bars and horns; two of the ground floor windows have dripstones. The entrance to the third bay includes a gabled porch with a segmental arched opening and benches, along with a narrow stair window to the left. The interior has not been inspected.
