Description
Fawcett Mill is a miller's house with an adjoining byre, built in 1784, as indicated by the initials J. & E.R. on the door lintel. The structure is made of coursed, squared rubble with quoins and features a graduated slate roof. It stands two storeys high. The three-bay house has a gabled porch with side benches and a plank inner door. There is a mullioned three-light window to the left and a two-light window to the right on each floor, with a drip course above the ground floor windows. Stone chimneys are located at each end. The adjoining byre, which was built at a later date, is integrated into the bank and consists of three bays overall, with the main entrance on the return and loft access at the rear. Inside the house, there are stone-flagged floors and original doors, both panelled and planked. The kitchen features a cast-iron range with a crane from the Victoria Foundry of Penrith, set in a large corniced, bracketed fireplace, while the scullery range includes a set-pot. Additionally, there is a fine Gothick style cast-iron fireplace on the first floor above the kitchen.
