Description
This is a Methodist chapel with a cottage underneath, built in 1836. It features ashlar, coursed squared stone and a graduated stone slate roof. The building has two storeys and two bays. On the right side, there are two board doors in plain stone surrounds, with semicircular headed windows above that have glazing bars and voussoirs. Between the windows is a panel inscribed 'Howgill Methodist Chapel AD 1836. God is with us Isa VIII 10'. The front of the building has a ground-floor cottage with a central board door in a plain stone surround, flanked by four-pane sash windows. On the first floor, there are two round-headed windows similar to those on the right side. The chapel has modillions, shaped kneelers, and stone coping, with an end stack to the right.
