Description
Hindlethwaite Hall is a farmhouse dating from the late 17th century to early 18th century. It is constructed of coursed rubble with a stone slate roof and has an L-shaped plan. The building is two storeys high and consists of five bays, with a wing extending to the rear left and a single-storey lean-to along the left side of the house and wing. The right side features quoins. The central entrance has a seven-panel door set within an architrave that includes bases, a pulvinated frieze, and a cornice. Above the door, there is an ashlar plaque inscribed with "AAW 1901". The windows are two-light, flat-faced mullion types set in architraves, except for a matching single-light window located above the door. The roof displays shaped kneelers and ashlar coping, while a rebuilt stack is positioned to the right of the door and a corniced ashlar stack is located at the right end.
At the rear, there is a stair turret situated at the junction of the main range and the wing, featuring a two-light chamfered mullion window on each floor, although the lower one is blocked. The left (west) return of the rear wing includes a blocked chamfered ashlar doorway to the right and a four-light mullion window on each floor that has been altered to form a four-pane sash. The lean-to, which has two construction phases, features a double-chamfered window surround, a part-glazed door within a quoined ashlar surround, and a later window and boarded door in an ashlar surround with impost blocks.
