Description
4 and 5 Settlebeck are a pair of cottages, likely built in the early to mid 19th century, consisting of two separate constructions that have been altered. They are made of roughly coursed rubble with slate roofs that are slightly different in height, and stone slate at the rear. The cottages are two low storeys high and feature two windows on the ground floor of each, with quoins on No. 5 at the junction. Each cottage has a symmetrical design, with a square-headed doorway flanked by large rectangular six-pane sash windows at ground level. These openings have large stone lintels that almost connect, and there are smaller six-pane sashes above. No. 5 has a slightly higher roof with gable chimneys. At the rear, No. 4 has one storey, while No. 5 has two very low storeys. The interior has not been inspected. These cottages are included as part of a street frontage group with Nos. 1 to 3 on the left and Nos. 6 and 7 adjoining on the right.
