Description

The Methodist Manse in Dent is a building likely dating from the mid to late 18th century, with some alterations. It is constructed from white-washed roughly-coursed rubble and features a stone slate roof. The manse has a layout of 1:2 bays on an east-west axis, facing north.

The building stands two storeys high and has a three-window main range, with the windows arranged in a 2:1 grouping. The main entrance is a square-headed doorway located offset to the right, featuring a four-panel door that is sheltered by a late 19th-century gabled wooden porch. This porch includes narrow side windows, ornamental tracery, and an apex finial. To the left of the entrance, the ground floor has a large square two-light fixed window with one opening pane in each light, while the first floor has a pair of narrow rectangular hornless sash windows with twelve panes each and exposed boxes. To the right, the ground floor has a twelve-pane fixed window, and the first floor features a large square window with coupled hornless twelve-pane sashes.

There is a one-bay extension to the left that includes a rectangular sash window without glazing bars on the first floor. The building has a ridge chimney at the junction and gable chimneys at both ends. The rear and interior of the building were not inspected. The manse is part of a group with the Congregational Manse, located approximately 30 meters to the northeast.
